The 2019/2020 Moot Problem concerned a dispute between the fictitious WTO Members Astor and Taikon on certain measures affecting trade in live animal and prepared food products. The Moot Problem raised a series of WTO law-related questions, including the scope of a WTO Member’s right to maintain sanitary and phytosanitary measures, the right of WTO Members to grant advantages to preferential trade partners and the consequences of a party to a regional trade block leaving that block.
The team representing the University of Zurich successfully participated in the Regional Rounds of the 18th edition of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition that took place from 2nd to 6th of March 2020 in Brno, Czech Republic. Having proceeded to the Semi-Finals of the Regional Rounds, the team of the University of Zurich, once again, qualified for the World Final Round, which took place from 22nd to 27th of June 2020 on a virtual platform.
